Periyar
Periyar is also known as Thekkady. Among its chief attractions is the wildlife, which needs to be experienced by every visitor to Kerala. The Periyar Lake is in the midst of the sanctuary. The Periyar National Park and Tiger Reserve is among the best wildlife parks all over the world. It is located close to the Western Ghats. Over there you would see almost 800 pachyderms going about their lives in unison with their families. The number of tigers in Periyar National Park and Tiger Reserve is going up at a remarkable rate. The scenery at this park ranges from flat grasslands to hills. You would find primarily deciduous vegetation at this park.

You would find 260 types of birds at the Periyar National Park and Tiger Reserve. The predominant species include darters, wood pigeons, cormorants, kingfishers, ibises, kites, gray herons, ospreys, mynas, thrushes, flycatchers, blue-winged parakeets and orioles.
In order to make your Periyar tour an absolutely fantastic experience you should take a ride in the boats. You would also find it easy to look at the elephants as they are always coming close to the lake to have fun. The Periyar Lake is also a very good place for bird watching.
